Happy Halloween…bad economy….no potato famine

Halloween can sometimes be tricky. That’s a horrible and non punny introduction.  However, today I was researching treats people may hand out on this sacred day recognizing ghosts, goblins, murderers, the devil, dash in a sprinkle of a child dressed as a nice hobo or perhaps a pirate who kindly pillages and plunders, a broom flying witch (no, I am not referring to my former principal) and a guy dressing up as Steve.  He is my Irish brother.

Sleepy Hallow was about a legend known as “The Headless Horseman”.  My brother, Steve, is about a legend known as Steve.  Legend has it, and I confirmed it earlier this morning, he did something absolutely deplorable and despicable one Halloween evening while living alone in his house 30 some odd years ago.

This is not for the faint of heart, so look away or run away if you are a bit squeamish.  My brother, Steve, is a bit of a health nut.  He enjoys an occasional beer, but candy really isn’t his cup of cavity.  Therefore, while living in his humble rock house, he thought  giving out raw potatoes providing nutrients to children would be far more important than providing candy corn and apples riddled with razor blades.  That part is true.  This next legendary part I’m hoping is true.  One of those raw potatoes went flying and crashing through one of his windows that Halloween night, thus costing him more than a bag of Barber Shop Bubble Gum.  Who knows?  The culprit could possibly have  been one of his younger brothers.

Tonight, I am dressing up as Steve.  That will scare the Halloween out of everyone.  They won’t be getting potatoes, but, much like Steve, they will receive a laugh, a smile, and sadly, a few cavities.

Have a safe evening and enjoy the fun memories of Halloween.  …….(unless you are a boyfriend who doesn’t enjoy watching his girlfriend dressing up as a prostitute).

  1. Too funny Benji!! Mom told me about the Halloween Potato Famine Steve story, didn’t know he did that but not surprised of course, teehee. I was @ the Cao’s w Mom by ourselves(while Anne & Dode in NC) for Halloweeny. Mom insisted to not give out candy as she doesn’t want to deal w the crazy lil doggys @ the door. She also added that Minh disagrees w giving out candy to kids(they ate fresh fruit in V Nam) as it promotes cavitys, hmmmmm. Not only that, she went out a limb saying that Anne doesn’t give out candy either?? Which Anne informed me yesterday that is simply not true as she has given out hundreds of milk duds & hot tamales to the kiddos of Tudor Sq. hmmmmmm I said to he– w that as it has always been one of Josie’s fav hollydays, therefore I will do as I please. Sooooo as Mom was getting her flu shot @ Walgreens, I ventured down the candy isle and picked up some tootsie lollys(me fav)2 for $5 and had a grand idea….if the man of the house doesn’t agree w candy, I will make a comprimise and buy tangerines too!! wow, love it!! So we gave out lollys and lil oranges. So the dogs wouldn’t take a bite out of the kiddos, we didn’t answer the door & I made a sign that said “Beware of wild dogs!, take one lolly and one fruit then GET OUT!!” teehee As many came by I listened thru the door and chuckled @ the funny comments from the kids. Was surprised @ how responsible some of them were. One said “read the sign Tommy, one of each” or parents saying “how nice 1 sweet and 1 healthy treat” as another said “hurry up they sound like mean dogs” yea right a cockapoo and a lil sheetzu. Shud have had me hyper sweet Sheltie there shute!! Anyhoo, was a fun night w Mom enjoying the tricks or treaters and watching her fav show Dancing W the Stars(i like to watch Maxim) She thinks JR will win Mary tinks/hopes Ricki Lake will. Well….i hav a long shot of Nancy Grace as she dances w cute Irish Tristan and her crush is Brett Michaels too. teehee Ok enuf…… point is we had so much fun, next year Anne & I r giving out Irish Taters & Vietnamese lil oranges. Love ya lots,God Bless ya all PJJ
PS Looking forward to seeing u & Britt’s new house & of course the doggys

Your post is important; the issue is something that not a lot of people are speaking intelligently about. I’m really happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
